Eds journey toward relief begins with some familiar omens of the genre.

(They even serve cake!)
Theres only one story in this world, however, and its that things are not what they seem.
Rather than admit their troubles, Ed and his compatriots smile and run away from them.
As Ed sees the truth, it all cascades into regret.
He makes an impassioned plea to the mysterious woman to reclaim his son and his old life.
And thus, she grants his wish.
Ed smiles from ear-to-ear, for this happiness is real.
Its certainly a powerful sentiment.
We never seem to know what Ed knows or doesnt know at a given moment.
Its not story-based drama; its just demonstration.
Sure, he tells us how important his son is.
How they have moments of joy.
How much he misses him.
And thats the trick.
Still, audacity will get you somewhere.
Instead, he shouts to our souls that This is love!
In that moment, we know its true.
At least for this man.
And maybe thats all an episode of television really has to do.
