As a result, a petition asking Netflix to cancel it was signed and circulated.

Its not quite what you think it is.

Well, Ive seen all twelve twelve, I tell you, twelve!

episodes ofInsatiable, and it turns out the show is not as bad as you imagined.

Like, worse in ways that you cant even anticipate.

Insatiableis an equal-opportunity train wreck.

On top of all that, its a freakin narrative mess.

But the series takes way too long to get to those moments.

And I wasnt a loser now.

That may be the well-intentioned messageInsatiableand its creator, formerDexterwriter Lauren Gussis, are aiming to convey.

The defense that Netflix offered is that the show is designed to be over-the-top satire.

The problem is that it doesnt come across that way.

Social satire is very tricky.

Take episode one, which is easily the worst episode of TV Ive seen all year.

Evenflashback Monica Geller onFriendsis more convincingly obese than this!

She even stops eating entirely at one point until she passes out, but its all for naught.

Shes still carrying the extra pounds and tons of shame, while her peers continue to cruelly mock her.

Thats all it takes, girls!

He touched her hoo-hoo!

Regina shouts seconds after Dixie loses another pageant.

In case you cant tell, this show isso-phist-i-cated.

Hes a child molester, Nonnie reminds Patty.

Which means I might have a shot, Patty responds.

ARE YOU LAUGHING YET?

All of what I have just described all happens in the first episode.

The jokes and set pieces only get more uninspired from there.

A whole scene takes place at a fundraiser for anal cancer, because the wordanalis justhilarious.

Thats because you were malnourished in China.

Even basic details dont ring true.

But a lot of things dont add up inInsatiable.

Whats most perplexing is that some talented people are involved in making this disaster.

I have to think that all of them could find better ways to earn a paycheck.

Still, shes not bad.

She throws herself into the role with a certain gusto.

Thats not because Im worried about too much bingeing.

Its because I have some taste.

Correction:A previous version of this review statedthat Dee is the only African-American character of significance inInsatiable.

There are other African-American characters in the series, so that sentence was removed and the review was republished.

Our apologies for the error.
