Whats the deal with the train?

It is in the possession of, or sought by, most characters at one point or another.
Except in the finale, we learn the gold isnt real!
Its just coal painted to look like gold!
The whole fortune was fake!
Where is the train going?
Who tries to stop it?
In the opening sequences of the last episode, the train is now headed back to the Soviet Union.
Also, Gereon and Charlotte are trying to stop the trainandthe Nazisandthe Armenian.
(Gereon and Charlotte learn the truth about the gold train car long after theyve let it leave.)
Wait, which ones are the Black Reichswehr?
Theyre the group of German nationalist proto-Nazis, lead by General Seegers and industrialist Alfred Nyssen.
Near the end of the season, we learn that Gereons partner Bruno Wolter is a secret member!
Who is the Countess, exactly?
All along, Countess Sorokina a.k.a.
The Countess ends the season having reinvented herself with a new lounge singer identity and reunited with Kardakov.
How did the Armenian find the train?
Hold on, Fritz is alive?!
Ah yes, Fritz.
There, among the group of shouting soldiers, is Fritz alive!
But her supposedly dead Socialist boyfriend is now wearing a Reichswehr uniform rather than a Socialist pageboy cap.
Which group convinced Greta to kill Benda?
He was in trouble no matter what.
Charlotte lives!
And then she gets to be an official member of the police department!
What side does Gereon end up on?
Youd hope that our hero would go down fighting the good fight in support of the doomed Weimar Republic.
(Hes also almost killed by the Socialists for lying during his testimony.)
And his new boss is absolutely a Nazi.
Who is this mysterious hypnotist?
In it, Gereon sees his wounded brother Anno out in no mans land.
But actually … Anno didnt die!He was the hypnotist Dr. Schmidt the whole time!
